June 10, 1954

My dear Dr. Alagappa Chettiar,

It was a pleasure meeting you at Karaikudi the other day. You will now be back in Madras. I hope all is well with you. I propose to come back there before the end of this month, and I shall look forward to meeting you at Guindy soon afterwards.

I am writing this to give you some trouble, and I hov you will please not mind. One of the assist- ants in my Secretary's office here, Mr.R. Srinivasan by name, has a sister-in-law. S. Sudha - who was widowed soon after marriage, and thereafter she educated herself in order to find her own feet in life independently. She is a B.A. (Hons) with Economics as her main subect. She secured a high second class at her university examination. She has also undergone theTeachers' training course, and secured B.T. degree. She is well versed in Karnatic music and has alsotaken the 'Praveshika' in Hindi. She has some experience of teaching at a private educational institution and has also worked in the women's welfare Department of the Government of Madras. She was retrenched after the creation of the Andhra State.

I understand she would like to take teaching as a profession; and being informed that you are opening a Women's college in Karaikudi and recruiting the necessary staff for it, I thought I would give this name to you as a suitable one. She can teach History and Economics which were her main subjects in the Intermediate and B.A. classes. I am told she has already applied for the position. I shall be glad to help this very deserving family if at all possible.

Hoping all is well with you, and thanking you for your uniform courtesy and kindness,

I am,
With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
Sd.. Sri Prakasa.

Dr. Alagappa Chettiar,
Madras - 7
